Qcheck v0.8
Run Quake in a stripped-down mode to quickly check for active Quake
servers on an IPX LAN.
Are you at the office? Hooked up to the LAN? Ready to play Quake?
Do you want to check if there are any servers running on the LAN
without first shutting down Windows 95, waiting for full game
initialization, wading through the demos and entering the menu
commands? Then Qcheck is for you.
Qcheck is a modified quake.rc file (loaded into a separate directory)
that runs Quake only for the purpose of executing the slist command.
Once you know whether servers are running on your LAN, you can quit
Qcheck and run Quake for real or get back to work.
To install, unzip this file from your Quake directory. Then, create a
Win95 shortcut that runs Quake or Winded with the following parameters:
C:\GAMES\QUAKE\QUAKE.EXE -noserial -noudp -game Qcheck -dedicated
or
C:\GAMES\QUAKE\WINDED.EXE -noudp -game Qcheck
You should also set the shortcut to close the window upon exit and to
run the program in a window. Put the shortcut on your Win95 Desktop
and double-click whenever you're in the mood for an office fragfest.
In a few seconds, you'll find out whether there are any similarly
inclined folks in the office.
